A Roman ceramic sherd from the base of a vessel dating to the period c AD 43-410. The sherd comprises a section from the base of a greyware vessel, probably a flagon (it may possibly be an Oxford red slip coated ware which has been abraded). The base is flat with convexly curving sides which then expand to form the walls. The fabric is a light grey colour with a reduced grey core and sandy or micaceous and possibly red grog inclusions (although the later may be remnants of slip coating). The sherd weighs 37.77g. It is 60.25mm in length, 51.44mm in width, 21.69mm in height and 6.63mm thick.
