A medieval lead papal bulla of Pope Clement V (Pope 1305-1314). The obverse exhibits a three-line in-relief inscription reading: CLE/MENS/:PP:V, within a beaded border. The reverse has in-relief facing masks of St Peter and St Paul with a cross between; surmounted by the incription SPA SPE, within a beaded border. St Peter is depicted on the right with his hair and beard made up of a series of pellets to indicate curly hair. St Paul is on the left and is depicted with straight hair swept back from the forehead and a long, straight beard. Each saint is surrounded by a separate beaded border. The bulla has been pierced from top to bottom to house an attachment ribbon or cord.
Diameter 37.84 mm, thickness 4.68 mm, weight 42 g. It has an even off-white patina.
