An early Post-Medieval (c. AD 1500-1600) silver gilt dress hook of Read's Class D, Type 5 (Heart-shaped/ Ovoid) (Read 2008, 71). The dress fastener is complete, with both the attachment loop and hook intact. The plate is largely flat and has a lobe on top, one on each side, and another above the hook. The plate is decorated with a raised foliate design consisting of a heart shape above three petels. The motif is contained within a raised border around the edge of the plate. The face and edges of the plate retain the gilding.

The reverse of the dress fastener consists of a separate soldered sheet attachement loop which sits on the upper portion of the reverse. Below this, attached to the approximate centre of the reverse, is the hook. It has been flattened on the reverse of the plate and extends between the lower rounded knops. It is circular in cross-section and curls back towards the reverse of the plate, terminating a sharp hook.

The object measures 16.4mm long, 11.3mm wide, 1.4mm thick and weighs 1.30 grams.
