An incomplete post-Medieval lead-alloy (pewter) trapezoidal shoe or knee buckle (c. 1660-c. 1720).

The spindle, pin and chape are missing.

In plam. the frame is sub-rectangular with rounded corners. It is moulded at the front and plain at the rear. The frame is drilled at the centre for a separate iron spindle, some of which has survived within the spindle holes. On the front of the frame, at each side where it is drilled, there is a pair a knops/lobes. At the front, each outside edge has an outer groove and one outer edge has a pin-rest. At the rear the inner faces of the outside edges are slightly bevelled.

This buckle frame is silvery with a greenish tinge.

Length: 35.4mm; width: 22.1mm; thickness: 4.6mm. Weight: 7.74g.

A similar buckle has been dated c. 1660 - c. 1720 (Whitehead 2003: 99, ref:

616).
