A copper alloy Post Medieval button, probably dating from the 17th century. It has a convex front face which is decorated with a stamped design os a central ring and dot, surrounded by five circular motifs. These have chevron shaped motifs in the angles between each neighbouring pair, perhaps representing the sepals of the calyx if the whole design is seen as a flower. Two parallel lines running from the design to the edge of the button could represent the stem. An engraved line forms a circular border round the flower, interrupted by the stem. The outer border is decorated with curved radiating lines forming ovals, perhaps egg and dart pattern, but too faint to be certain. One trace of the original surface survives and is either dark brown enamel or a glossy brown patina.
The reverse is hollow and in the centre is a bent, integral copper alloy loop. The button is 26mm diameter, 6.1mm thick and 6.3g. Compare KENT-B14F0B and SF-4EE41B which have similar designs and construction, though if the brown material is enamel, it could suggest a later date.
