A copper alloy probable medieval (AD c.1066-c.1300) probable strap end. Overall, the object measures 32.3mm long, 21.5mm wide and 6.3mm thick. It weighs 10.98g.
The object is tongue shaped and has a rectangular cross-section. There is an opening at the wide end that is filled with a pale clay soil. There are two rivet holes through the object at the wide end, one of which still has the remains of a rivet through it. The whole of the object is hollow, but there are no join marks along the edges between the front, sides and rear. The front of the object has a double punched or rocker arm engraved border around its edge. The surface of the object has been tinned or silvered.
