Sheet copper alloy patch or staple, rectangular in plan and profile, with two rivet holes and one extant round-headed rivet. The sheet has been folded over, probably to repair a break in the rim of a copper alloy vessel, and then riveted to itself and whatever it held within.
Egan (2005) illustrates a similar folded rectangular sheet patch with round rivets on page 101, fig.87, no.462, which is dated from c.1575-1600.
Ottaway & Rogers (2002) illustrate a similar folded sheet patch with a rivet near the edge on page 2815, fig.1399, no.15154, which is dated from the 16th century.
