Cast copper alloy double loop oval spectacle buckle with bevelled inner edges and expanded outer edges and a narrowed strap bar. There is a slight knop at either end of the strap bar. The iron pin survives attached to the pin bar, but is covered in iron corrosion product so that it cannot be measured accurately. Each outer frame is decorated with three oblique incised lines, creating a rope-like effect. The central groove on each outer edge could have also been used as a pin rest.
Whitehead (1996) illustrates similar oval buckles with bevelled inside edges and narrowed strap bars on page 54, nos.305 & 310, which are dated from c.1500-1650.
