A fragment of Roman copper-alloy strip (multiple motif) bracelet or armlet, dating to the 3rd and 4th centuries. The fragment consists of a curving section 23.9mm in length with old breaks to either end and an elongated D-shape in cross-section. The reverse is undecorated while the front is decorated with three panels divided by two prominent transverse ridges, the immediate area on either side slightly concave. Both incomplete end panels are undecorated as far as can be distinguished. The central panel has a side-projecting triangle to one end decorated at its centre with three punched annular rings, the two centremost edges of the triangle flanked by conjoined circular punch marks. The only decoration beyond this is a single punched annulet in the two corners beyond.
The object measures 23.9mm in surviving length, 7.3mm in width, 2.0mm in thickness and 1.99g in weight. Much of the original patina has a white-coloured rough covering, although the reverse is shiny and smooth to touch.

Notes:

This is an incomplete copper-alloy armlet or bracelet of Roman date. It finds parallels with Crummy's multiple motif bracelets or armlets (Crummy, 1983: nos. 1724-1732) and is of late Roman date, c.3rd-4th centuries AD.

Class: strip (multiple motif)
