A iron arrowhead of medieval date. The arrowhead has a long, slender and tapering tang, a triat usually seen in European arrowheads, unlike the English arrowheads which were usually socketed. The head is broadly leaf-shaped but has suffered some damaged around the shoulders and to the tip. Although it was usually barbed arrowheads that were used for hunting, this type too wouls also result in the desired effect and as the tang was firmly fixed into the arrow shaft it could be removed from the prey and reused. The find location of this arrowhead and three others found nearby (see BERK-3E1305) suggests these were used for hunting; Snelsmore Common became such in the medieval period. General 'high' medieval date of .c 1200-1450 AD.
The head of this arrowhead measures 32mm long x 15.7mm wide x 2.6mm wide. The tangs measures 103.2mm long and has a roughly square cross section measuring at the most 4.5mm thick. The arrowhead weighs 9.3 grams.
