An incomplete copper alloy oval buckle frame, dating to the medieval period (1100-1500). It is incomplete in so far as it is missing its bar, pin and part of the frame.
The outside edge is rectangular in cross-section with a central transverse rectangular slot for the missing pin. The slot is the width of the edge (4.8mm) and 1.8mm deep. The external edge of the frame is faceted with three shallow faces and gives the impression of being curved in outline. This edge is max.4.8x4.5mm and narrows into the sides which measure 2.3x3.6mm and 2.7x3.0mm at their old breaks, just before the missing bar. The latter of these breaks has a pair of worn rectangular projections just before it, perhaps the remains of a loop or possibly ears from a missing zoomoprhic representation.
The frame measures 15.7x22.6x4.5mm and weighs 2.96g.
