The reported object is a fragment of silver gilt 'fede' or devotional ring with a bezel in the form of an angel holding a sacred heart, the angel's right wing being represented by ridges for feathers. The hoop at this pint has the form of a flat band. Height 12.5mm; overall width 8.7mm; thickness 3.2mm; hoop width 5.2mm; hoop thickness 2mm; weight 1.35g.

The ring, which has broken into two sections, has not undergone any cleaning or conservation.

In terms of design and style of the iconography, the ring is probably of fifteenth- or early sixteenth-century date. A similar bezel from North Willingham, Lincolnshire, has been dated c. 1475-1525 (PAS 2008, 160, no. 359). While this motif is not uncommon in the late medieval period, no other examples on jewellery are known from Wales. Other motifs on finger rings, such as crowned sacred hearts, have been recorded (eg Penhow, Monmouthshire, PAS Cymru 03.18; Llanover, Monmouthshre, PAS Cymru 6.26).
