Lead alloy Medieval to Post Medieval weight or spindle whorl. The object is cast as an oblate sphere with a raised equatorial seam where the two halves of the mould joined. One half is decorated with longitudinal moulded ridges around its curved surface, although corrosion disguises the full extent of this. Around the equator there are six equally spaced lozenge-shaped projections with their longest axis aligned longitudinally. There is a 9mm circular hole running from pole to pole through the object with no sign of differential wear. Similar examples can be seen on this database cf. LON-F32475 and WMID-C5C727.Circa 1200-1600 AD.
