Copper alloy sword belt fitting. Concavo-convex teardrop-shaped plate with a collared loop at one end and a broad low knop at the other. The roughened surface condition of this object may suggest it has been burnt or fiercely abraded. This may partly conceal a fixing pin behind the collar; an equivalent pin may have been lost at the other end. This object compares with a range of pendant hooks thought to be associated with sword belts and/or baldrics (Read, B. 2008, Hooked Clasps and Eyes, Portcullis Publishing, Huish Episcopi, pages 226-228, nos 811-818). Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1700.
Length: 38mm, Width: 19.7mm, Thickness (plate): 1mm, Weight: 6.42gms.
