A fragment of a copper alloy medieval (AD c.1300-c.1400) stirrup, missing the foot-rest and most of its sides/arms. Overall, the object measures 47.9mm long, 69.7mm wide and 12.7mm thick. It weighs 54.9g.
The fragment consists of the suspension bar, cover-plate and the intact ends of the arms. These elements are connected to each other so that between them is a rectangular-shaped loop. The cover-plate is in the shape of a trapezium (tapering towards the top). It has a rectangular ridge down the centre of it from top to bottom. The suspension bar, to which the leather strap would have attached, is broadly rectangular and rectangular in cross-section. The arms are both cylindrical.
