A copper alloy worn trumpet brooch from the Roman period, dating to c.1st to 2nd centuries AD. The trumpet brooch has a typical oval head shape and is a hinged example. The hinge and pin are missing. The bow arches out from the head and tapers towards the foot which is incomplete. The bow is D-shaped in cross-section. The bow is decorated with an oval waist moulding with a horizontal groove above and below.
A slight rise is all that remains of the catchplate. There is no visible decoration and the object is pitted in places with a light green patina. A number of similar brooches of this type can be seen in Richard Hattatt's Visual Catalogue of Ancient Brooches; page 326-328. It can be dated from AD75-175.
