Lead possible button. Flat discoid object with an integrally cast lug on the back. This is folded back against the reverse of the disc, and may represent an integrally cast loop as yet undrilled. The front bears a central motif of a plant with small flower and two side fronds, flanked by the letters [possibly C or I] M - the C, if this is intended, is reversed, whereas an I would be heavily seriffed. This may be a homemade version of a commemorative costume accessory, of which the best known class are cuff links celebrating the marriage of Charles II to Catherine of Braganza. The lettering here is different, and may refer to private individuals. An alternative identification as a cloth seal of similar date was considered. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1650-1680.
