An iron post-medieval (AD c.1600-c.1800) stirrup. Overall, the stirrup measures c.143mm long, 143.9mm wide and 59.0mm thick. It weighs 146g.
The stirrup is formed from a frame made from an iron rod which has been shaped into almost an oval, with a flat base. The frame splits into three at the base to form the foot rest. The centre prong is straight while the outher two curve around to form the edge of the oval foot rest. At the top there is a projecting rectangular suspension loop.
According to the finder, there is a similar stirrup on display at Tattershall Castle, Lincolnshire, which is dated to the 1600s. There are very few of this type of stirrup on the database, but none are dated to a period more precise than the 17th-18th century.
