One arm from a pair of Post Medieval nut crackers, dating from about AD 1650 - 1800. The handle is straight and circular in section. It terminates with a globular knop. A spherical bead moulding decorates the top of the arm before the rectangular plate that actually rested against the nut. Th e outer face of this is decorated with a traingular moulding near the handle. The inner face has a circular concave area or hollow to keep the nut in position. The hinge and other arm are missing. The nutcracker fragment is 86.9mm long, 14mm wide and 9.9mm thick. 19.23g. Compare LVPL-FE4801. The nutcrackers seem unusual in having a hollow for the nut rather than grooves to provide grip.
