A complete copper alloy Medieval buckle, dating to the period AD 1270-1350. The buckle has an axis bar which expands out to form the frame. At the centre point of the outer edge the frame forms a pointed knop, decorated with three transverse moulded lines. The frame is oval in cross-section. The pin is still intact, and comprises a length of copper alloy, D shaped in cross-section, which is folded around the axis bar at one end. The plate is form of a sheet of copper alloy folded in half around the axis bar, with an appature for the pin. This plate is secured with four copper alloy rivets, two situated towards the axis bar and two towards its terminus, so it appears that there is one rivet in each corner. There are two longitudinal incised lines to either side of each pair of rivets. There is a green patina on the surface. The reverse is undecorated.
Cf. Egan, G. (1991) p.75, no.306, dating to AD 1270-1350.
The buckle measures 35.21mm in length, 18.70mm in width, 3.39mm in thickness and weighs 4.50g.
