A copper alloy figurine of uncertain date, possibly Late Post Medieval to Modern (AD 1750-1900).
The type of animal depicted is unclear, the figure is in a dancing pose with both arms outstretched. The face has circular indentations to represent the eyes, a fairly large nose and wide mouth with teeth showing. The left ear is rounded and the right ear is slightly larger and sub-rectangular in form. The hair is represented and is spiked up and flat on top. The torso has three small circular indentations to represent two nipples and the belly button. The left arm is outstretched and the hand is clasping a circular object that has a central circular perforation. Presumably this once held something or acting as a fitting so the figurine may be attached to something else. The right arm is also outstretched to hold a circular object however this does not have a perforation. The right leg is raised, bent and the toes are pointed. The left leg is lowered, slightly bent and the foot is upturned. Both feet appear more animal like than human and have four toes. On the underside of the left leg is an integral circular rivet. There is a broken terminal opposite the right leg which is presumed as once being an integral tail. The object has a deep purple/dark green coloured patina.
There do not appear to be any other parallels on the PAS database.
The figurine measures 60.03 in height, the width is 52.18 mm (the extension from arm to arm) and weighs 62 grams.
