TOKEN

Unique ID: DUR-59D893

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete lead token of post medieval date (AD 1550-1850). The object is sub-circular in plan and flat in section. On the obverse of the object is a raised motif in the shape of an anchor. There are possibly initials on either side of the anchor, but they are illegible. The reverse of the object is a raised sexfoil motif with a central pellet. The token has been broken off on the top, right, and bottom.

Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely.
