A fragment of a Medieval to Post Medieval Medieval copper-alloy sword or dagger scabbard chape. The chape is rectagular in plan with a curved base. It has a rectangular cross section. The chape seems to have had symmetrical open-work decoration most of which is now missing. Once side has been broken away by an old break. One similar example has been found on the database (CAM-4D6461) although this example does not give a very clear indication of date. This chape has therefore been given a broad Medieval to Post Medieval date.
The chape is 36.5mm long, 26.3mm wide, 8.7mm thick and weighs 6.21 grams.
