A large flint axehead of Mesolithic date (10,000 - 4,000 BC). The axehead is sub-ovate in shape with an irregular lozenge cross-section, having a flatter lower surface and a more steeply ridged upper surface. The cutting edge has been sharpened by the removal of a single large flake.
The flint has a patchy greyish-white patina, retaining the cortex on part of the upper surface, and has a patches of orange iron staining. The axehead is 119.3mm long, a maximum of 49.2mm wide and a maximum of 33.4mm thick. It weighs 180g.
