An almost complete Medieval copper-alloy single-loop buckle (c. 1200-c. 1400). Meols type 2.
The frame is roughly oval in plan and is 'D'-shaped in cross-section. The narrowed bar is sub-circular in cross-section. The tapering copper-alloy pin is 'D'-shaped in cross-section, flat at the rear.
This buckle has a shiny green patina with small areas of corrosion. A small portion of the pin is missing at the tip.
Frame: length: 16.4mm; width: 31.0mm; thickness: 3.7mm.
Pin: length: 13.8mm; width at loop: 2.7mm.
Overall weight: 2.68g.
A similar buckle from London has been published (Egan and Pritchard 1991: 68, fig. 42, ref: 271).
