A medieval lead alloy pendant charm in the form of a draw string purse dating 14th - 15th century. Each side of the purse was cast separately from the same mould. The sides were then joined together by four spots of solder. The purse is decorated with a lattice pattern of quatrefoils, pierced overall to permit a glimpse of the contents. One tassel protrudes from the base, The remains of the draw strings dangle from the top corners but the ends are missing. At the top are two stubs that would have formed loops for suspension. The overall shape of this purse is slightly distorted and some of the smaller elements are broken and missing.
Dimensions: length: 47.73mm; width: 50.60mm; thickness: 8.57mm; weight: 10.35g.
A very similar purse is published in Spencer (1998:314 no.311) which contained an imitation coin with royal arms on it that suggest a date of 1340-1406. Two other similar purses were found from dated 15th century contexts (Spencer 1998:315).
