A complete copper alloy mining token or check of Modern date (AD 1870-1910). The object is a check or token for the Lumley coal mine in Durham. The obverse is obscured by corrosion therefore obscuring the purpose of this particular object.
The obverse reads: DURHAM MINERS ASSOCIATION//LUMLEY LOD[]No 81
Reverse reads: ARDILL LE[EDS].
The object has a single, circular purforation.
Ardills were a large producer of tokens and gaming counters based in Leeds. They were in business from the 1870s to early 1910's.
