A late medieval/ early post-medieval (1400-1600) copper-alloy closed thimble of Holmes' 'tonsure' type (1988; 3), with a small crack in the wall at the open end. The thimble is slightly squashed.
The top (15.5mm diameter) is domed and flattened at the apex, which is plain and without decoration (5.5mm in diameter). Concentric circles of drilled circular pits (the pits smaller around the top and larger around the walls) continue to the edge which is flanked by a concentric groove. The open end measures 20.9x18.4mm and the walls are 1.4mm thick.
The thimble stands 20.6mm tall, is 20.9mm in max.width and weighs 6.14g.
