One rim sherd of a wheel thrown ceramic coarse ware vessel, of the Roman period, dating from the 2nd to 3rd Centuries AD.
The rim sherd consists of a local fabric known as Derbyshire Ware, dating from the 2nd to 3rd Centuries AD. The sherd probably originally came from a jar type vessel. The rim is upright and the body flares out beneath it, there is a semi circular sectioned ridge at the base of the rim on the interior. The fragment is a mid grey in colour, with visible white (shell like) and brown inclusions.
The sherd measures 30.4 mm in length and 51.6 mm wide. It has a thickness of 7.9 mm at the rim and is 5.1mm thick at the body, it weighs 27.7 grams.
