A complete copper alloy medieval rectangular buckle frame with plate and missing pin. It has a thickened outer edge decorated with three transverse grooves in the centre of the outer face which act as a pin rest. The shorter sides curve outwards slightly and have a raised transverse ridge behind each outer corner. The strap bar is narrowed and recessed and has a simple plate consisting of a strip of copper alloy folded in two with a slot at the fold to leave a gap for the pin. An in situ copper alloy attachment rivet sits at the outer end of the plate. It survives in good condition with a green patina.
It belongs to Meols Type C (Griffiths et al. 1997, 97) where a late 14th century date is suggested.
