An incomplete copper alloy decorative plate of probable medieval date (1100-1500). The plate, which is 0.6mm thick, is roughly rhomboid in shape, having one apparently intact short-end, cut on the diagonal and one irregular break at the opposite end, possibly across an off-set rivet hole, but this is not clear.
One surface is decorated with a motif of opposing triangles: parallel lines of punched dots delineate the sides of the triangles which are alternately filled with rows of punched dots or left blank. Two blank triangles are intact (the diagonal break appears after one of them) and one filled triangle is intact while the other is incomplete. The reverse of the plate is undecorated. The incomplete object is 28.4mm long, 12.8mm wide and weighs 1.00g.
Notes:
The function of the plate is unclear but it may have served as a buckle plate, strap end or book fitting.
