A late Iron Age or early Roman (c.AD 25 - 60) incomplete cast copper-alloy Colchester type bow brooch. Each side of the head an integral flat wing projects laterally, respectively both narrow at the juncture with the bow and then expand before turning down 90 degrees to form a rounded terminal pierced with a drilled hole. Near each hole is a transverse moulded or engraved groove and a V-shaped nick in each edge. An integral chord-hook on the head is similarly decorated. A separate copper-alloy wire bilateral spring with six coils each side is attached to the head with the chord secured beneath the hook, a stub of integral pin is visible at its break with the spring; the pierced wing terminals and ferrous residue on the spring, wings, front and back of the bow and head suggest a lost iron axis spindle. The brooch exhibits moulded longitudinal ribs and grooves which run the entire length of the bow - the median rib has a beaded border both sides.
Length 64 mm, width 24.44 mm, thickness 2.14 mm, weight 9.65. part of catch-plate and pin and axis spindle are lost, otherwise in condition with a smooth, green patina.
