Late Mesolithic to early Neolithic (c. 8300 to 3300BC) probable scraper: The scraper appears to be knapped from a secondary or tertiary flint flake. The flake is an irregular sub- oval. The proximal end has been removed and along this edge, on the dorsal and ventral surfaces, semi-abrupt retouch which includes three notches. The dorsal surface has at least four negative scars which are at varying angles. The ventral surface has conchoidal ripples. The distal end has also evidence of retouch forming a notch. The scraper is knapped from a mottled mid grey colour which has a slightly waxy texture. From the distal to proximal end it measures 25.89mm long, 31.65mm wide, 5.58mm thick and weighs 3.83g.
The scraper appears to have been knapped from a waste flake (debitage) and dates to the late Mesolithic to early Neolithic. Scrapers were used to work soft material, such as hides or perhaps used for woodworking (Butler, 2005:49).
