Lead stylus or pencil, of rounded section tapering towards a point, where it is slightly bent. A hole of diameter 2.5mm has been drilled from both sides at the broader end, and is now countersunk, probably by subsequent wear. The blunt end is slightly rounded and is lightly polished. Length: 50.0mm, Width: 8.6mm, Thickness: 6.8mm, Weight: 11.27g.
This object may be a writing lead of Biddle's Class I (Biddle 1990, 735-8, 742-3) which Biddle dates to the 9th to late 11th century (1990, 736).
