A flint Mesolithic axehead, possibly a Tranchet axehead, dating to the period c. 10,000 - 4000 BC. The axehead measures 142.75mm in length, 57.07mm maximum width, 39.23mm at the butt end, 45.75mm at the blade end, 38.86mm maximum thickness, 5.12mm minimum thickness and weighs 281.35g.

The axehead is irrgeularly shaped with an irrgeular cross section, a narrowed butt and rounded blade. The cutting edge is incomplete due to old breaks. The axehead has been bifacially flaked and retains c. 10% cortex on one face. The blade has been shaped by a series of parallel flake removals on one face and a single oblique flake removal on the opposite face.

The flint is a mottled milky grey in colour and exhibits large coarse grained inclusions throughout and is partially recorticated.
