A Medieval fragment of cast copper alloy Limoges-style figurative mount ,depicting a figure of Christ which would probably have been attached to a processional cross. Only the head, face and part of the neck remains. The front head has been moulded in three dimentions with a convex reverse. The edges of the mount are flat to allow it to be mounted flat against a surface. The crowned head has circular perforations for eyes, which wuold once have contained stone or glass beads for eyes. The nose and mouth are moulded in relief and there are engraved details on crown and delineating hair, ears and beard. There are traces of guiding all over the surface of the fragment.
The fragment is 27.9mm long, 20.4mm wide, 12.5mm thick and weighs 8.44 grams.
This is very similar to a more complete Dorset find DOR-BC3228 and to LIN-A7A7E7, NMS-361643 and DOR-A08BD8. All of these examples have been dated to circa AD 1200 to 1300.
