Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete lead or lead alloy standing / pyramidal weight, of Medieval to Post Medieval dating (AD 1200 to AD 1600).

The weight has a flat circular base. The sides taper inwards towards the top. The remains of an iron suspension loop are present in the top of the weight.

It measures 34.4 mm in height, 23.0 mm wide and 22.0 mm thick. It weighs 69.8 g or 2.46 oz.

It is a light to mid grey colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.

Several similar pyramidal /suspension weights have been recorded on the PAS database including LEIC-7EFD23, LEIC-D9C2D0, YORYM-F52F85, WILT-ECEC12, SF-0B04D3 and SF-D59B31. All are considered to be Medieval in dating (AD 1200 to AD 1600).
