An incomplete lead or lead alloy standing / pyramidal weight, of Medieval to Post Medieval dating (AD 1200 to AD 1600).
The weight has a flat circular base, with a central recessed pellet. The sides of the weight have been facetted, forming four distinct sides. The sides taper inwards towards the top. A complete circular suspension loop is present at the top of the weight, with an internal diameter of 2.2 mm.
It measures 43.3 mm in height, 44.4 mm wide and 48.0 mm thick. It weighs 254.6 g or 8.98 oz.
It is a light to mid grey colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.
Several similar pyramidal /suspension weights have been recorded on the PAS database including LEIC-7EFD23, LEIC-D9C2D0, YORYM-F52F85, WILT-ECEC12, SF-0B04D3 and SF-D59B31. All are considered to be Medieval in dating (AD 1200 to AD 1600).
