Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A gold post medieval posy ring dating to the period c. AD 1500 - 1750. The outside of the hoop is decorated with a foliate design of scrolled flowers, leaves and tendrils in relief bordered along the edges of the loop with a raised reserve. The inside of the ring bears the inscription "I present the absence" written in lower case italics. The ring has been bent out of shape during deposition.

The hoop of the finger ring is distorted and measures 21.25mm in length, 11.88mm in width. The band measures 4.04mm in height and is 1.14mm thick. It weighs 1.91g.

There are a number of similar posy rings which have been recorded on the database and have passed through the Treasure Act.

DENO-5FA2D0 (2014 T329), LVPL-9EBA23 (2014 T533), SWYOR-331F03 (2010T541), DUR-05A835 (2013T880) & WMID-38F105 (2012T813) were all declared as not Treasure due to a lack of identifiable maker's mark or other indicator to securely place the ring as falling within the date stipulations of The Treasure Act.

The same applies in this case. In the absence of an identifiable maker's mark it is not possible to confirm that this ring pre-dates 1715.
