A copper alloy thimble of Post Medieval date, about AD 1730 - 1800. It is probably a Dutch Type III or English thimble (following Holmes, 1988, Finds Research Group Datasheet 9). The thimble is cast in one piece, has a slightly thickened rim with a plain band, and is machine stamped with circular pits in diagonal lines on the walls and a waffle pattern on the slightly domed top. The size of the thimble indicates that it would suit a child only. It has a base diameter of 13mm, a height of 13mm, a thickness at the base ring of 0.9mm and a weight of 3.2g.
