A copper alloy folding strap clasp dating from the Medieval period, about AD 1250 - 1450. The frame is slightly trapezoid, and the plate end is narrower than the rotating end. The bar on round which the plate attached is integral to the frame, but the bar at the rotating end is separate, held in a hole at each side of the frame. The plate is a folded piece of sheet making a sub rectangular plate which tapers away from the frame. It is recessed round the bar and has a single rivet hole near the far end. Some of the back plate is missing. The rotating end is decorated with three incised crosses and is made from sheet, rolled round the bar. The clasp has a smooth green patina and is in good condition. Similar clasps can be found illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991: 118; fig. 77). Compare also Whitehead number 237 on page 41. The clasp is 33.9mm long, 14.3mm wide and 4.5mm thick. 3.6g.
