A copper alloy Roman button and loop fastener dating from the 2nd century AD. It is a Wild's Class VI because it has a rectangular head, but rather than being plain or enamelled, it is decorated with an incised line border along each long edge, and a pair of similar lines longitudinally across the button, which is wider than it is tall (14.9mm by 11.8mm and 2.3mm thick). The button is flat and rectangular in cross-section. The loop is integrally cast, triangular and has the characteristic 90 degree bend before joining the button in the centre of the reverse. The fastener has a smooth grey green patina and some pitting and damage to the loop. It is 19.4mm long, 14.9mm wide, 9.7mm thick. 3.23g.
