A complete post-Medieval copper-alloy mount (c. 1600-c. 1700).
This mount is flat at the front and rear. It is symmetrical in plan and has on oval centre with lobed ends. Between the centre and each lobe there is a pointed projection at each side. There are two integral tapering spikes at the rear, one at each end. These are rectangular in cross-section.
This mount is reddish brown with traces of a green patina.
Height: 36.4mm; width: 14.9mm; thickness: 1.7mm; thickness including spikes: 13.2mm. Weight: 5.43g.
A similar mount from South Somerset has been dated c. 17th century (Read 2001: 28. fig. 21. ref: 316).
