An incomplete knapped lithic implement of early Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 3500 BC. The implement is broken at both terminals however as its length is more than twice the width and the sides are more or less parallel it is identifiable as a blade. It is formed from a tertiary flake which is rectangular in both plan and section. The ventral surface is smooth with faint ripples of percussion. The distal surface has had three long flakes removed and displays abrupt, short, sub-parallel flaking to the left edge mesial portion.
The flint is a light orange-brown colour. The implement is 27.2mm long, 16.7mm wide, 2.9mm thick and weighs 2.1g.
Broad blades such as this are common in the early Mesolithic as well as the early Neolithic period, Neolithic examples however tend to be broader, as this example is.
