A lead alloy musket ball of post-Medieval date, circa 1644. A pair of shallow depressions where the casting sprue was removed with nippers can still be seen. There is also a shallow circular depression diametrically opposite these marks. This extra mark is patinated like the rest of the ball, so must be of a similar age, but the reason for its presence is not apparent. It could be impact damage. The ball has a light yellowish-grey patina. It is 16.7mm in diameter and weighs 28.59gm. The weight suggests it would have been used in an arquebus or caliver.
