Incomplete cast lead alloy button, circular in plan and domed in profile, with a central raised pellet with nine spokes emanating from it, which terminate in a circular border that runs around the edge of the button, to create the appearance of a wheel. Between each spoke is a single pellet, just within the circular border. The back of the button has a moulded line that crosses the diameter of the button which is the base of what was probably a simple looped shank in the centre.
Read (2005) illustrates a similar solid lead alloy button on page 101, no.398, which is dated from the 16th century.
Bailey (2004) illustrates a similar solid pewter button on page 17, fig.6.1, which is dated from the 15th century.
