A complete medieval single loop buckle made of copper alloy. The buckle frame is oval with a narrowed and offset strap bar. Both the loop and the bar are round in cross section. The outer loop of the frame is decorated with an angular knop at either end. Between them sits a roller. The pin is not present.
There is no sign of surface decoration. The buckle frame has a dark grey patina. On the roller and the reverse there are patches of green corrosion. Corrosion around the roller means its outline is indistinct in places and it no longer articulates.
This object measures 20.53mm long x 17.49mm wide x 5.00mm thick. It weighs 2.53g.
A similar example is published by Egan and Pritchard (2002) page 73 number 301. Whitehead (1996) dates this shape of buckle frame to circa 1250-1400 AD.
