A complete medieval single loop buckle made of copper alloy. The buckle frame is oval with a narrowed and offset strap bar. The loop itself is oval in cross section and the strap bar has a square cross section. The outer loop of the frame is decorated with rounded knops flanking two transverse ridges. There is a central groove where the pin would have rested. The pin is not present.
The frame has been damaged causing it to become bent out of shape. No surface decoration is visible. It has a green patina with areas of brown where soil is adhering, especially in the grooves formed by the decoration on the frame. It is 26.43mm long x 21.67mm wide x 3.06mm thick. This object weighs 3.06g.
Similar examples are illustrated in Whitehead (1996) page 22 and are dated to circa 1250-1400 AD.
