An incomplete Post Meideval copper alloy buckle, dating AD 1575-1700. The object is formed of a semi-circular loop with the second rectangular loop no longer present, having broken away. There is a leaf shaped projection at the apex of the semi-circular loop and traces fo an iron pin. There appears to have been another iron object inserted into the semi-circular loop, causing a large quantity of reddish-brown corrosion product to develop. The buckle itself has a mid-grey colouration, with traces of a white grey patina on the decorative projection.
More complete examples are recorded on the PAS database (cf. CORN-70231B) which reference similar but not identical parallels in Whitehead (1996. 92, nos. 582-4). the published examples date bewtween AD 1575-1700, a likely date for this example.
