An incomplete lead or lead alloy unknown object of uncertain function, possible decorative mount or part of a wall hanging, possibly of the Post Medieval to Modern period, dating from c. AD 1600 - c. AD 1900.
The object is broadly rectangular in plan and slightly C shaped in section. At the right hand end is what appears to be a quinfoil design, with three rounded nodules remaining (two at the side and one at the centre), the two on the other side appear to have been broken or damaged, presumed in antiquity. Between each nodule is a triangular shaped groove. Below this the object tapers gently in and then curves sharply out again to form a rectangular terminal at the other end. This is decorated with a groove above and five humps along the very end of the terminal. There is a broadly circular perforation towards the centre of the object. The reverse is decorated with a raised circle around the perforation in the centre and a groove forming a ridge close to the rectanglular terminal end.
The object measures 43.3 mm in length and is 31.8 mm wide. It has a thickness of 6.6 mm and weighs 31.2 g.
The object is a mid to dark grey in colour with an even patina. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil may have resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail.
